Joseph Schroeder is a physical education teacher at the West Tisbury School, and the Head Coach of the MVRHS Cross Country and Track & Field teams. A seasoned runner in his own right, Coach Schroeder ran track (hurdles and dashes) in high school in Michigan and in college at Ohio Wesleyan before moving to Boston. A USTAF Level 1 Certified Track & Field Coach, Joe has been coaching for 30 years, 29 of which have been with MVRHS. He was named Boston Globe Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2002, and again in 2016.
Michael Lavers is a math teacher at MVRHS, and in his second year as assistant coach of the MVRHS Cross Country team. Mr. Lavers coaches spring track and field.
BOYS XCOUNTRY CAPTAIN
Owen Porterfield is captain of the boys cross country team and is a senior at MVRHS.
GIRLS XCOUNTRY CAPTAIN
Catherine Cherry is a junior at MVRHS. She has been a three-season athlete for the past three years, running cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. She was named an Eastern Athletic Conference All Star in her first two cross country seasons and a Cape & Islands League All Star in her third. She was an EAC All Star for her 2017 and 2018 Indoor and Outdoor Track + Field seasons, as well. In 2018, Catherine led her team to win both the Cape and Islands League Championship, the MIAA division 5 Eastern Massachusetts championship, and earned a 5th place win at MIAA All State meet.
